I see the scars around my wrists and ankles

You come into this world free. A dreamer.
Then chains begin to form around your tiny wrists and ankles.
It starts with religion. It is inflicted upon you. You are not even old enough to read and yet religion has been thrown at you.
The chains are carved with your first cross, star, moon, ohm.
Then one miraculous day for those around you , you start to stigmatise your thoughts. You say your first words. You have now started to confine meanings, to create boxes, to mumble labels.
The chains are filled with the alphabet.
You grow up a bit by bit. Feeling free and happy. Asking questions and absorbing the answers given to you.
It's time to go to school. New clothes, new backpack, a cool sparkly lunchbox and pictures to keep as memories for this wonderful transition in your life!
You learn about rules. Rules of friendships, rules of success, rules of mating, rules of dividing adding multiplying and subtracting, rules of standing out, rules of power, rules of language, rules of popularity, rules of bullying.
You learn about history. The history of how your own country has been a victim by all the big sharks who you must hate or how your country was the hero.
You are feeling free and happy. Asking questions and simply accepting the answers given to you.
The chains feel light on your wrists and ankles. It is like they don't exist.
Time passes by, and your deciduous teeth have fallen and have been replaced, and your parents have no say in your life anymore because you are all grown, all equiped and all powerful now and you can make your own choices.
You want to go to college, and you want money, and you want power, and you want to get married and have 5 children to spoil and love. These are your choices!
You dont ask questions. You now know!!! The school has taught you everything there is! Your parents were patient enough to reply all of your questions correctly! And it is very important to not forget that the television, and media have been holding your hand every step of the way feeding you the ultimate truth!!
You want more. You want more than more. You want what you don't have. Shoot for the moon they say? You reply by saying that you want to own the moon.
You feel free and happy and a dreamer above all.
The chains sparkle with gold. They don't exist.

What is the best way to have someone under control forever? The best way is making them think they are free. Making them walk through a process of not only narrowing the mind, the drive to research and learn, the will to think, but also creating the ego, the ultimate warrior against your true self!

You walk blind and deaf. You walk like a zombie. You feel free and happy.

*Are you??

*Wake up!!!

*Are you??

*WAKE UP!!

Are you FREE?? Are you HAPPY??

  1. I find it ironical that this post generalized us, the same way teacher in our school does. "YOU are victims of mass media's brainwashing" "YOU are being absorbed by consumer style of life".

I get the idea, I just highly disagree with way you present them.

If you want to be herald of truth, enlighting people and trying to show them better style of life, then in my honest opinion you should first think out about how to transport that message.

You can say that it's just empty semantics, but I disagree - words are the shape of thoughs, ideas... And if you dont use them well then you might disort the idea...

  2. I see what you are saying and I agree with you! While I was writing I had myself included in the 'you' but surely not everyone can know that so its important that i dont leave any room for misunderstanding in the future! Thank you!

  3. Well depends on what are you trying to archive with your words honestly.

If you'd be doing that just to express yourself then "da heck with that, I write what I want to"

But if you want to influence other people you have to keep in mind what can other people think...
